My Saving Grace in High School

Ask anyone from my high school and they’ll tell you that I wasn’t a great student. At all. Not only was I overweight, but I had a speech impediment that meant I had to attend special classes. But the one silver lining in all of this was that I was an incredible athlete.

Although I was fat, I could run circles around most on the Football and Baseball field. I was one of the top athletes in Kansas city and was a 3 time recipient of All State Honors in Baseball.  I am not saying any of this to brag or re-live the glory days so to speak, I am just trying to paint an accurate picture of how and why all of this happened.

Despite my winning performance on the field, my weight subjected me to a lot of mockery and bullying. Many schools also wouldn’t recruit me because of my weight. I didn’t know it then, but those rejections ended up being a divine intervention that led me onto the path I am today.

Tune in above to learn more about my experience as an overweight All-State high school then All-American college athlete and how one meeting with my academic advisor completely changed the course of my career.
